History

Congress Held
In 2002, a congress held at the Accra Trade Fair Center, La, redefined and adopted the ideology of Social Democracy as the new party philosophy; with guiding principles that emphasizes equity, solidarity, social justice and the egalitarian treatment of all persons irrespective of their social, cultural, educational, political, religious and economic background in a peaceful and stable multi-party system.

Party School Established
In 2015 the Research Directorate of the NDC was tasked by FEC to among other things work towards the establishment of a party school. The Directorate initiated process by forming the Party School Working Committee chaired by the General Secretary and convened by the Director of Research.
The main objective of the Party School was to strengthen the role of the Social Democratic ideology in the policies and operations of the National Democratic Congress.
“The Saturday Institute” was the first initiative by the working committee.

GISD Launched
On 10th August, 2017 the Ghana Institute of Social Democracy was finally launched at a grand ceremony at the NDC Party Headquarters. The committee was later sworn-in as the Interim Governing Council of the school when it was finally launched. Dr. William Ahadzie and Mr. Peter Boamah Otokunor were appointed the founding Rector and Registrar respectively.
